WHY?
The sociological importance of knowing some factors of poverty is so that individuals in society can understand that poverty is not a personal choice. Some factors such as education, family resolution and job opportunities all play a role in generational poverty. Some of factors reveal that the poor are not always poor just because they lack financially security, but such poverty may exist because they lack the resources to provide a good quality of life due to failures in other institutions of life.
Knowing that people in poverty are troubled by factors out of their control can allow individuals to see the problem of poverty as a social problem rather than a personal problem for the individuals that are living in poverty everyday.
It may also provide insight that racial discrimination is still prevelant and visible, especially when the factors of poverty are investigated and broke down into individual issues. The largest reason why poverty is a sociological issue is that it brings insight that racism is no longer just a problem between the races and nationalities, but a problem that discriminates between social classes, that leave the poor becoming the "new" discriminants of society.
This webpage was created to inform individuals of the struggles
of poor women and their children. It was created in an attempt to explain the
social problem of poverty and give insight on why women suffer within society in
regards to the issue. Poverty is not a personal choice, although personal
choices may contribute to women living in poverty, the choice to live in
poverty is not a goal of many women. There are many factors that lead to
women and their children leaving below the poverty line; this webpage was design
to give insight of the many factors that contribute to poverty and what can also
be seen as obstacles that the family or the recipients will undergo or have to
defeat in their attempt to escape the generational
cycle
